Our designs incorporate the use of authentic, sacred seeds that come to us via the families that have tended to their growth for centuries. In breaking with tradition they have give our manufacturer in Bali, the only western woman ever, accessibility to create from their labors.
Rudrakshas are a symbol of compassion, humanity and a simple reminder of the present. As the story goes, Lord Shiva was meditating in the forest on the state of the world. He began to cry tears of compassion and as his tears hit the ground they formed the rudraksha seed. Rudraksha literally translated means “eyes of Shiva”.
Only Bali Malas has the source for highest quality small rudraksha beads in the world. Making Bali Malas the most sacred, healing of malas.
Today, malas are being used more and more as a personal adornment by non-meditators and meditators alike, those who are seeking transformation of a calmer mind, body and soul. When one absentmindedly reaches to the neck during the day and feels a mala , it is a reminder to come back to the breath, to be aware. When leaning over the mala dangles into eyesight, another awakening, another gentle nudge.
When worn against the skin and especially over the heart chakra, they act upon the heart by opening it and offering it protection. They are immediately cooling to the touch, calming to the mind, and pleasingly soft to the eye. The rudraksha berry varies in size and has smooth green skin and pulp much like a green grape. Lodged within the pulp is a single seed which has a rough surface and a hole running through it from top to bottom. We take care to be sure to string our malas from top to bottom to keep the seeds organic, energetic path.
